Pregnancy monitoring
You can receive individual, unhurried service and reassurance during the different phases of pregnancy at our specialists’ appointments.
In addition to our maternity clinic, Felicitas Mehiläinen provides help and support in pregnancy monitoring from a specialist, a perinatologist. We want to offer all expectant families tailored and unhurried service specifically designed with pregnancy in mind. If necessary, a pregnancy monitoring appointment can be scheduled even at short notice.

We use the latest technology in pregnancy monitoring
Our specialists monitor your pregnancy with state-of-the-art equipment. We use a 4D ultrasound scanner to obtain a three-dimensional video material of the foetus. The use of the device allows for more accurate detection of structural anomalies. A cardiotocograph to monitor the foetus’s heart rate and Felicitas Mehiläinen’s laboratory services are also available.

How often should pregnancy monitoring be performed?
We recommend that you schedule about five monitoring appointments with your doctor during pregnancy:
- A nuchal fold ultrasound, a serum screening or a NIPT screening of the mother’s blood are performed in pregnancy weeks 11–13.
- A morphology scan is performed around weeks 19–21 of the pregnancy.
- The mid-pregnancy ultrasound is performed in pregnancy weeks 26–28 and the third trimester ultrasound on weeks 36–38.
All appointments are individually scheduled according to the customer’s wishes. A follow-up check is carried out after childbirth.
You can book your first appointment at our maternity clinic as soon as the pregnancy test is positive. Felicitas Mehiläinen’s gynaecologists specialised in childbirth and pregnancy monitoring, our perinatologists, provide professional support, service and treatment at every stage of pregnancy.

Pregnancy monitoring with ultrasound
It is advisable to book an early pregnancy ultrasound examination for pregnancy week 7. The examination ensures that the foetus is in the right place inside the uterus and growing and developing well. During the examination, the doctor also determines the duration of the pregnancy and the due date.
It is advisable to book your first visit at the maternity clinic for pregnancy weeks 10–13. The dates of additional appointments are planned individually. In later stages of pregnancy, an ultrasound examination is carried out to assess the foetus’s morphology, growth and posture and the placenta’s location and placental function.
The foetus’s heart rate can be seen from pregnancy week 7 onwards at the latest.
Progress of pregnancy
It is important that the pregnancy proceeds safely and the whole family is well. Therefore, we listen carefully to the wishes and needs of future parents. Felicitas Mehiläinen’s designated midwives take care of pregnancy monitoring throughout your pregnancy up to childbirth. In addition, support is also provided by a specialist experienced in pregnancy monitoring fulfilling the role of a designated maternity clinic doctor. If necessary, our couples and family therapists will also provide support during your pregnancy.
