Genetic counselling

Medical genetics is a specialty of medicine that diagnoses, treats and provides guidance in issues related to hereditary and congenital diseases.

In genetic counselling, a doctor specialised in genetics diagnoses diseases that are affected by your genetics. With regard to these diseases, genetic specialists also provide advice on the nature of the disease, the mode of heredity and the possible need for treatment or monitoring. The specialist also assesses, by means of various examinations, the risk of the onset of a certain disease regarding the person having the appointment or their current or future child or if a disease in the family is hereditary.

Hereditary causes of infertility

The investigation of infertility and the cause of miscarriages may reveal genetic abnormalities, such as chromosomal abnormalities, the significance of which is explained by the genetic specialist. The specialist also provides advice on foetal examinations and preimplantation genetic diagnosis.
