Now is the #timetodonate! There is a constant shortage of egg donors. For many involuntarily childless people, donated egg cells are the only way to have a child. One egg cell donor can change the life of those suffering from infertility.

Around 13,000 fertility treatments are performed in Finland each year, one fifth of which use donated egg cells, sperm or embryos. Donated egg cells can be used in fertility treatment if it has been proven that the cause for infertility are the egg cells or if the ovarian function has been terminated prematurely due to congenital disorder, other illness or, for example, cancer treatments. Female couples and single women may also need donated egg cells.

A generally healthy woman aged 22–35, who does not have any serious hereditary diseases that prevent the donation or any communicable disease that could cause a serious illness to a woman undergoing fertility treatment or to a child born as a result of the treatment, is eligible as an egg cell donor. Having your own children or pregnancies are not a prerequisite for donation. Egg cell donation does not affect fertility or cause early menopause.

Felicitas Mehiläinen operates in Helsinki, Lappeenranta, Oulu and Turku. Clinics are constantly in need of new egg cell donors.

A donor must agree to the registration of her personal information in the donation register maintained by the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (VALVIRA). She must also agree to the disclosure of this information, upon request, to the child born as a result of the treatment when he or she reaches the age of 18.

Accepted donors will be reimbursed for their expenses.
