Hakala-Ala-Pietilä Tiina

I received my basic education at the University of Helsinki Faculty of Medicine, and already during my studies I had a summer job at Helsinki Women’s Hospital and became interested in the field. Also during my specialist training, my favourite placement at Helsinki Women’s Hospital was the hormone outpatient clinic, where I was able to treat patients with infertility. In 1987, I defended my doctoral thesis on pregnancy risks and perinatal death at the University of Helsinki, and immediately after graduating as an obstetrician-gynaecologist, I started working at the fertility clinic of the Family Federation of Finland, where I gained a great deal of experience in the field for many years. Later I started working at Felicitas. I wanted to work at Felicitas because Felicitas has been a pioneer in fertility treatments throughout its existence. I have been working at Felicitas Mehiläinen for about 15 years.
I am happy to see all kinds of patients, including basic gynaecological patients – that is to say, not just those seeking treatment for infertility. One of the things I enjoy about this work is seeing patients of different ages with different problems. I am particularly familiar with patients who have been trying to get pregnant for a long time and may already have had many treatments, as well as with patients over 38 years of age, in whose treatment the focus should be a little different compared to younger patients.
I am particularly pleased to have been able to work at Felicitas Mehiläinen, where the atmosphere is good and where it is possible to plan personalised treatment for every patient, with good results.
